What is SMETA?

SMETA is an audit procedure that gathers best practices in ethical audit techniques. It is not a code of conduct, a new methodology, or a certification process.

By utilizing SMETA, a supplier can undergo a single audit and share it with multiple customers, instead of having to perform separate audits for each client.

The SMETA methodology uses the ETI (Ethical Trading Initiative) code and local laws as assessment tools. It includes four modules:

  • Health and Safety
  • Labor Standards
  • Environment (optional)
  • Business Ethics (optional)

You can find more information on the official certification website.

Currently, a new audit has not been requested; however, proper compliance with the respective guidelines is continuously monitored.
